Azure Managed Disks is a great storage service provided by Microsoft Azure that offers several benefits over traditional storage methods. It simplifies the process of creating, configuring, and managing the storage for Azure Virtual Machines (VMs) and other Azure services. We have made use of disks to host premium or high performance Virtual Machines.
  • Improved reliability: Managed Disks come with built-in redundancy and automatic failover capabilities to ensure high availability and data durability.
  • Improved reliability: Managed Disks come with built-in redundancy and automatic failover capabilities to ensure high availability and data durability.
  • Flexible storage options: Managed Disks offer a variety of storage options such as Standard, Premium, and Ultra Disk storage, to cater to different performance and cost requirements.
  • Easy to use: Managed Disks can be easily created, configured, and managed using the Azure Portal, Azure PowerShell, Azure CLI, and Azure SDKs.
  • Costs: The cost of Managed Disks can be quite high for some workloads, so cost optimization features such as the ability to automatically move data between storage tiers based on usage patterns, or the ability to automatically release unused disks, could be added to help users better manage costs.
  • Data migration: Managed Disks do not currently support data migration to and from other storage services. Adding support for data migration could make it easier for users to move their data from other storage services to Azure Managed Disks.
Virtual Machines: Managed Disks are the recommended storage option for Azure

Virtual Machines Backup and Disaster Recovery: Although more expensive than Blob storage, Managed Disks can be used as the storage target for Azure Backup and Azure Site Recovery where high performance is a requirement.

High-performance workloads: Managed Disks can be used for other high-performance workloads such as databases
  • The ability to increase performance
  • The ability to increasescalability
  • The flexibility to scale the disks
  • Azure Managed Disks have allowed us to test and benchmark the required performance
  • Azure Managed Disks have allowed us to run short term projects without investing in physical infrastructure

Our client had moved to Azure cloud and we starting setting up Managed Disks feature as well for public files access of users through sharepoint sites. Azure Managed Disk totally helped us to solvedour need to physical disks and managing their backups, fascilitating IT support and high costs associated with it.
  • Zero complaints
For our client Azure Managed Disks was the best solution as the client was already switched from onsite to cloud and using office 365 and some features of Azure. It provided us speed, scalability, has various security features and the most important it is affordable. Data backup is very comprehensive to configure. We are also using it to manage our Virtual Machines.
  • Ease of Configuration
  • Very Secure
  • Reliability
  • All work great
Azure Managed Disks comes with rich security features that includes encryption capabilities. Accessing, managing and transfering data is easy, which was a big advantage for our clients' final decision to choose it compared to other competitors.

High use for networking and data management for users across various locations and departments. Facilitates travel and sharing for users and team members when manipulating data and congregating results.
  • Operates seamlessly for team members regardless of location or department
  • Allows for user succession as managers move and are replaced by having relevant data available.
  • Lends itself to upgrades that have been done on several occasions.
  • Open source is nice but a bit confusing for many without the full technical background.
  • Upgrades come but involve a learning curve which can be slow.
  • Risk management often needs additional oversight which could be better integrated.
This helps in the financial services industry with trading acknowledgements, instant fund tranfers, and payment notifications. This eases the compliance concerns of the integrity of the transactions.
  • Helps to modernize our trading features with instantaneous updates.
  • can customize client experience with the various modules.
  • Improve core platforms that allow us to customize pricing as clients need various services
  • Instantaneous trading updates often leads to additional transactions. Revenue stream increases with knowledge of an execution
  • Quick payment feature reduces float time and compliance concerns in receiving funds
  • Cloud and networking capabilities allow team members to be more responsive and productive with the access of data.
Azure has a longer history of capabilities and service. On an institutional basis the product has served our back office at a higher level than we perceived with GA.

We had a need to have highly available storage in the cloud that was easy to manage and could scale to our business needs. While we had looked into Amazon, we went with Azure as we had a larger footprint in the ecosystem and we liked the features and functionality it provided. Today, we use it to help manage our VMs, as well as help, provide redundant storage for our data lake retention
  • Redundancy and high availability is best in class
  • The ability to manage this in one central place and the Azure ecosystem integration is great.
  • Infrastructure as code and the ability to manage and maintain has become best in class.
  • As Azure is evolving a lot of the new features takes a bit to roll out to manage disk.
  • It takes a bit of time to provision disk and can be tedious for smaller projects.
  • I wish there were more options on the types of the disk that are available that would allow us to use it for smaller projects and pocs.
The managed disk is ideal for Virtual Machine propagation and ingestion project. From the VM side, we use it to roll out connected disks for our VMs. and for Ingestion, we use it for sensitive files and high availability files that are needed by multiple sources. These two use cases have worked really well for us and have allowed us to scale up and down as our needs and wane and ebbed. The only thing I wish was that this would be cheaper and easier for smaller-scale projects.
  • High Availability and redundancy
  • Cost
  • Easy of set up and replication
  • It has allowed us to adjust to based on business needs
  • It took us a bit of time to ramp up and change our model to support the new technology
  • We have better stability and be able to replicate the same solution several times
  • Amazon Elastic Block Store (EBS)
It is a cleaner setup since we are already bought into the Microsoft Infrastructure. Without the ecosystem they have built at Microsoft, we would not have such a seamless experience. While AWS is simpler to use, it is not set in the same model as how the Azure system is built and both tools can't be seen as a one to one comparison

We are currently using Azure Managed Disks as a cloud storage option to dynamically increase or decrease disk space on demand. By utilizing Azure Managed Disks we can quickly expand or contract as the demand is needed by the business. Some days we need more space than others so this allows us to keep our costs low.
  • Dynamic allocation of space
  • Ease of set up
  • Ease of Management
  • UI could be more streamlined
  • Better Help Documentation
Azure Managed Disks are best suited for large organizations that wish to keep their cloud costs under control. This cloud storage option allows for a high level of customization. I would not recommend for a small organization as the level of effort to set up and manage may be diminishing gains.
  • Ease of setup
  • Cost Savings
  • Ease of Management
  • Positive ROI as we have decreased our disk Cost
  • Positive as we have less downtime
  • Amazon Elastic Block Store (EBS)
Azure Managed Disks stacked up very well against Amazon Elastic Block Store. In the End it really came down to the fact we are running numerous other Microsoft Azure products and Azure Managed Disks would fit nicely into that ecosystem. We had less ramp up for training and learning issues.
